Miley Cyrus lit what appeared to be a joint on stage at the MTV EMAs in Amsterdam last night.

Miley Cyrus, 20, was accepting her award for best video for Wrecking Ball.

She opened her bag, took out the rolled up cigarette and lit it in front of the crowd.

The drug is not legal in the Netherlands but you will not be prosecuted for having a small amount in your possession and it is sold openly in cafes in the city.

The fans in Amsterdam did not seem to find it offensive.

Bruno Mars won for best song, while Justin Bieber and Katy Perry picked up best male and female.

There were performances from Snoop Dogg, Kings of Leon and The Killers.

“We’re just happy to be at the party, enjoy the insanity, it’s our fifth time at the EMAs and we have a lot of gratitude,” frontman Jared Leto said.

The MTV EMAs will take place in Glasgow in 2014, where they will be held at the brand new SSE Hydro venue.

Eminem joins a list of previous winners including Bon Jovi, Queen and Whitney Houston.

The rapper will also be at the ceremony in Amsterdam on Sunday night and possibly performing.

“A lot of thought goes into who could possibly be appropriate,” Bruce Gilmer from MTV said.

“This man, has sold over 80 million records.

“I think everyone agrees, Eminem is one of the most creative and unique artists of our time.”

Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Katy Perry and Kings of Leon are some of the big names confirmed for performances.

The award show will be hosted by Redfoo from LMFAO as the intergalactic MC.

He is looking forward to one act in particular.

“Miley of course, I just want to see what she is going to do,” Redfoo said.

“It’s about supporting everyone but i think I have the most segments, the most camera time.”

Heidi Klum has been the hostess of this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards but she certainly wasn’t winning the battle of the red carpet.

For her first of her six outfits at the star-studded ceremony in Frankfurt, the 39-year-old left little to the imagination in a revealing dress.

The mother-of-four showed off a lot of cleavage in the lace-up blue and gold studded Versace gown as she arrived on the red carpet.

With this year’s ceremony being held in her native Germany, Heidi Klum was a natural choice to host the awards.

As well as the rather skimpy number she arrived in, Heidi Klum is expected to wow the crowds in a variety of costumes throughout the evening.

Ahead of the show she revealed: “I have six different outfits from Versace that I love very much and I think for an event like the MTV awards I usually have a little bit more fun, I can be a little bit more sexy, a little more rock ‘n’ roll.

“So they have got me beautiful outfits, great shoes and great jewellery, but it depends how much time I have to change in between (hosting) because it’s all live.”

It wasn’t long until Heidi Klum had her first outfit change and changed in to a cream strapless dress, with cut-out detailing.

The top half of the dress, which appeared to be woven, turned into a large puffball skirt.

Heidi Klum completed the look with a bizarre top hat and leather fingerless gloves.

Ahead of the awards, Heidi Klum and PSY had been practicing the Gangnam Style dance.

In a Twitter photo, Heidi was Klum seen wearing PSY’s signature blue suit and glasses as she enjoyed a master class with him ahead of their video performance which was shown during the ceremony.

Heidi Klum admitted she regularly performed the dance with her four children.

The 39-year-old model wore a cornflower blue tuxedo jacket, a pair of black trousers, a white shirt and a bow tie to perform with the record breaking star at the event on Sunday.

In the comedy sketch Heidi Klum was seen throwing herself into the dance, and had clearly been practicing the famous sequence ahead of the show.

Heidi Klum was even seen sporting Psy’s signature shades and oozed plenty of attitude as she threw herself into the dance.

Following her performance Heidi Klum tweeted: “Had so much fun dancing w @psy_oppa! What do you guys think of my Gangnam Style? #mtvema.”

She said recently: “I’ll have to perform it. I have four small children and they are obsessed with the song. We do Gangnam dance parties at the house.”

Taylor Swift was the big winner at Sunday night’s MTV Europe Music Awards in Frankfurt after picking up three awards.

Wiping the floor with the competition, Taylor Swift, 22, made off with gongs for Best Female Act, Best Live Act and Best Look.

Even though Kanye West was there to support girlfriend Kim Kardashian, he didn’t invade the stage like he did when Taylor Swift won an MTV award in 2009.

Not only did the star win three awards but she also wowed the audience with her energetic circus-inspired performance, dressed as a ringmaster.

Taylor Swift was only matched in her success by teen pop sensation Justin Bieber who won Best Male Act, Best Pop Act and Best World Stage, although he couldn’t be at the ceremony due to a concert in Brooklyn on Monday.

Carly Rae Jepsen was also a big winner, picking up awards for Best Song and Best Push.

The 26-year-old Call Me Maybe hitmaker took to the stage perform and got the crowd going with a spot of crowd-surfing.

One Direction couldn’t be at the awards either, as they were still in LA on promotional duties, although they won awards for Best New Act and Biggest Fans.

Lana Del Rey showed up to present Taylor Swift with an award and walked away with one of her own, for Best Alternative Act.

South Korean pop sensation PSY won the award for Best Video, while Nicki Minaj, who couldn’t be there, won Best Hip Hop Act.

Taylor Swift closed the show in true style with a show-stopping performance of her hit We Are Never Getting Back Together.

Dressed as a circus ringmaster, the star danced under a shower of streamers and fireworks.

Taking to Twitter after the ceremony, Taylor Swift wrote: “Such an insane night!!! You guys won me 3 EMAs! Best female, best live act, best look. Can’t even begin to thank you enough. I love you!!.”
