Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell have been confirmed as the new stars of the second season of True Detective.

Eight episodes will be made with Colin Farrell starring as a detective and Vince Vaughn as a criminal, HBO has confirmed.

First time around, Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey took centre stage, earning them critical plaudits and award nominations.

That series focused on the intense relationship between Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey’s flawed but determined detectives.

Without revealing any spoilers, HBO has revealed some early details about series two.

It says the plot will revolve around three police officers and a career criminal who must “navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder”.

Colin Farrell plays Ray Velcoro who HBO describe as “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him”.

As for Vince Vaughn, he will play Frank Semyon who is a “career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner”.

There’s no word on any appearances for Woody Harrelson or Matthew McConaughey and no word on where the second series will be set.

Justin Lin, who’s directed the last four Fast & Furious movies, will direct the first two episodes.

True Detective production will begin later this year.

True Detective creator has denied claims that dialogue from its main character has been copied from a pre-existing work.

Writer Nic Pizzolatto said “nothing in the show is plagiarized”, adding Rust Cohle’s thoughts “are not unique to any one author”.

A blog post contended that his words are “borrowed” from other authors, particularly Thomas Ligotti.

Broadcaster HBO called True Detective “a work of exceptional originality”.

“The story, plot, characters and dialogue are that of Nic Pizzolatto,” the network’s statement continued.

“Philosophical concepts are free for anyone to use, including writers of fiction, and there have been many such examples in the past.”

“We stand by the show, its writing and Nic Pizzolatto entirely,” HBO concluded.

Nic Pizzolatto maintains that his talented but troubled chief protagonist, played by Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, is an “autodidact pessimist” who “speaks toward that philosophy with erudition and in his own words”.

“The ideas within this philosophy are certainly not exclusive to any writer,” he added.

Blog writer Mike Davis, responding to research carried out by Jon Padgett of the Thomas Ligotti Online website, claimed “exact quotes” by author Thomas Ligotti had been used in scripts for True Detective.

FX’s Fargo won the award for best mini-series, beating BBC dramas Dancing on the Edge, The Hollow Crown and Luther, as well as Bonnie and Clyde and American Horror Story: Coven.

Fargo‘s Billy Bob Thornton, who plays the enigmatic Lorne Malvo, was named best actor in a mini series or movie – beating co-star Martin Freeman. Their co-star Allison Tolman won the best supporting actress in the same category.

Orange Is the New Black won best comedy series, with additional awards for Kate Mulgrew, in the best supporting actress in a comedy category, and Uzo Aduba for best guest performer in a comedy.

Kate Mulgrew shared her award with actress Allison Janney, who was honored for her supporting role in comedy Mom. Allison Janney – arguably best known for her long-running role in The West Wing – won a second award for best guest performer in a drama.

Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany beat high-profile competition including Robin Wright in House of Cards and Julianna Margulies in The Good Wife, to score the lead drama actress win for the second consecutive year.

The Good Wife, a frontrunner originally nominated in five categories, came home empty-handed.

Top Gear‘s The Stig character reportedly stormed out of the ceremony after the show lost out in the best reality series to Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.

Ron Woodroof was first diagnosed with AIDS in 1985 and given just 30 days to live.

Ron Woodroof, who was born in Texas in 1950, was 35 at the moment of diagnosis.

He became an electrician and rodeo cowboy in adulthood.

Ron Woodroof initially refuses to accept the diagnosis, but remembers having unprotected s** with an intravenous drug-using prostitute.

Instead of accepting the death sentence, Ron Woodroof studied the disease and its effects on the body, and created a business sourcing and smuggling non-FDA approved medication, experimental and alternative drugs for AIDS patients.

His determination and tenacity enabled him to live for six more years – during which time he pushed legislation through the courts, promoted awareness of the disease and helped countless other AIDS patients in the process.

Ron Woodroof was first diagnosed with AIDS in 1985 and given just 30 days to live

In 1988, Ron Woodroof also began what is now known as the Dallas Buyers Club, through which he sold the drugs to AIDS victims around the world who had no other recourse. In the face of the FDA and other regulators, the Dallas Buyers Club flourished, but Ron Woodroof himself succumbed to the affliction six years after the diagnosis, on September 12, 1992.

Through the Buyers Club, Ron Woodroof operated a large distribution center for experimental AIDS treatments out of his Oak Lawn, Texas, apartment, selling thousands of dollars worth of medication. His club resulted in a huge network of buyers and sellers, all of whom attempted to fly under the FDA radar. The group imported AIDS treatments from other countries or smuggled in experimental American drugs that had been shipped to other countries but were not approved in the US.

His fight brought added awareness to the disease, and the awareness in turn helped countless victims find Ron Woodroof and attain a level of help otherwise unavailable.

More than two decades after his death, Ron Woodroof and his story are gaining renewed attention in 2013, as a movie version of his life, Dallas Buyers Club, finally came to fruition after years in limbo. The film stars Matthew McConaughey as Ron Woodroof, a role which brought him the Academy Award for Best Actor prize last month.

Gravity won a record seven prizes at the 19th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday.

The awards are a likely indicator of Oscar success and have predicted many of the winners in recent years.

Gravity was named best sci-fi film, while Alfonso Cuaron won best director and Sandra Bullock took best actress in an action movie.

However, 12 Years a Slave collected the coveted best picture prize.

Determined by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, the best picture winner has gone on to win the best picture Oscar in six of the past seven years.

The ceremony saw Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett win the top acting awards for their performances in Dallas Buyers Club and Blue Jasmine.

Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett also both won Golden Globes for their roles at the weekend.

The actor thanked the late Ron Woodroof, whom he portrayed on screen, saying he had “a life that was damned well worth putting to the big screen”.

12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong’o was named best supporting actress, while Matthew McConaughey’s co-star Jared Leto picked up best supporting actor.

Jared Leto dedicated his award to “all the people around the world who are living with HIV [and] all the people who have lost their lives to this horrific disease”.

American Hustle – which received 10 Oscar nominations – collected four awards in total, including best comedy film, acting ensemble, hair and make-up and best actress in a comedy for Amy Adams.

Leonardo DiCaprio followed up his Golden Globe win another best actor in a comedy prize for The Wolf of Wall Street.

Mark Wahlberg picked up best actor in an action film for war film Lone Survivor, which also collected best action film.

French film Blue is the Warmest Colour, which was snubbed by the Oscars, won the best foreign language film award, with its star Adele Exarchopoulos named best young actress.

This year’s Oscar nominations are to be announced later today.

12 Years a Slave, Gravity and American Hustle all expected to be in the running for best picture.

But the rest of the shortlist is up for grabs, amidst one of the most competitive fields in years.

Experts predict a full slate of 10 nominees, with Dallas Buyers Club and Captain Phillips among frontrunners.

Actor Chris Hemsworth and Oscars chief Cheryl Boone Isaacs will reveal the list at 05:38 local time.

The announcement will be streamed live on this page, with coverage starting at 05:30.

12 Years a Slave, Steve McQueen’s hard-hitting historical drama, picked up the top honor at the Sunday’s Golden Globes, winning best film drama.

It is also the bookmakers’ favorite to win the Oscar for best picture, but David O. Russell’s crime caper American Hustle is rapidly closing in, after picking up three Globes, including best film in the comedy or musical category.

Its female stars Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence also picked up best actress and supporting actress prizes.

Jennifer Lawrence won the best actress Oscar last February for Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook and is generating a strong buzz this year in the supporting actress category for her scene-stealing role as Rosalyn, the unpredictable wife of conman Irving Rosenfeld, played by Christian Bale.

Gravity, the 3D film about astronauts stranded in space, picked up the prestigious best director Globe for Alfonso Cuaron, making him an Oscar frontrunner alongside Steve McQueen and David O. Russell.

The winners of the golden statuettes will be announced at the 86th Academy Awards on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre

The winners of the golden statuettes will be announced at the 86th Academy Awards on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre

Sandra Bullock is hotly tipped for a best actress nomination, while 12 Years a Slave‘s Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o are all expected to get acting nods.

The best picture category can consist of anything between five and 10 films. For the past two years there have been nine films on the shortlist.

Among the hopefuls are Martin Scorsese’s stockbroker shocker The Wolf of Wall Street, sea piracy thriller Captain Phillips and Nebraska, Alexander Payne’s black and white film about a cantankerous old man on the trail of a dubious lottery win.

Also expected to pick up a nomination is Dallas Buyers Club, the true story of Texas electrician Ron Woodroof, played by Matthew McConaughey, who was diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1985 and given 30 days to live.

Although completely shut out of last week’s BAFTA nominations, Dallas Buyers Club is likely to fare better with the Academy’s 6,000 voters.

Matthew McConaughey was named best actor in a drama at the Globes while his co-star Jared Leto won the best supporting actor prize for his depiction of a transgender woman.

Bookies say Matthew McConaughey is closing in on Chiwetel Ejiofor in the race for the best actor Oscar.

Other names tipped to make the final cut are Robert Redford (All is Lost), Leonardo Di Caprio (The Wolf of Wall Street), Bruce Dern (Nebraska) and Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips).

Tom Hanks, already a double Oscar winner, might get two acting nominations this year, the second for playing Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks, a film about Disney’s attempts to turn Mary Poppins into a movie in the 1960s.

Cate Blanchett appears hard to beat for the best actress Oscar and is 1/8 favorite to pick up the award for her role as a New York socialite fallen on hard times in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine.

The best director shortlist could include Paul Greengrass and Steve McQueen.

The winners of the golden statuettes will be announced at the 86th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2 at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles. This year’s event is hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.

Matthew McConaughey shed 40 lbs to play the role of HIV positive Texan Ron Woodroof in highly anticipated film Dallas Buyers Club.

The results of Matthew McConaughey’s dramatic transformation are shockingly clear in a new trailer for the film.

Matthew McConaughey, 43, shows off his range in the preview footage, appearing tearful, angry and frustrated as he attempts to smuggle life-prolonging drugs into the U.S.

Dallas Buyers Club, set in 1985 Dallas, begins in the doctor’s surgery with Matthew McConaughey’s Ron Woodruff being informed he has tested positive for the HIV virus.

“Have you ever used intravenous drugs? Have you ever engaged in homos**ual conduct?” the doctor asks the initially homophobic electrician.

“You made a mistake. Because that ain’t me,” a horrified Ron Woodroof replies.

After being told he has 30 days to live, Ron Woodroof determines to find a way to survive.

“There ain’t nothing out there that can kill Ron Woodroof in 30 days,” he declares.

Matthew McConaughey shed 40 lbs to play the role of HIV positive Texan Ron Woodroof in highly anticipated film Dallas Buyers Club

Matthew McConaughey shed 40 lbs to play the role of HIV positive Texan Ron Woodroof in highly anticipated film Dallas Buyers Club

Ron Woodroof  turns to Jennifer Garner’s doctor Dr. Eve Saks for assistance but is unhappy with AZT, the only conventional drug available at the time.

After learning anti-viral drugs could be found abroad but were not FDA approved within the U.S., Ron Woodroof drives to Mexico saying: “They’re not illegal, they’re merely unapproved.”

Ron Woodruff then begins bringing the drugs back over the border, initially dressing as a priest and telling customs officials he has “nada” to declare.

The trailer then cuts to him encountering Jared Leto’s transgender character Rayon on the street.

Jared Leto, who also shed 30 lbs to play the role of the HIV positive transgender, plays the part in sassy yet fragile style.

“I’ve been looking for you lone star,” she tells Ron Woodroof after getting into his car, before she negotiates “25 per cent cut” of his burgeoning operation, which he soon names Dallas Buyers Club.

“You treating these people?” Dr. Eve Saks asks, before Ron Woodroof clarifies: “They’re treating themselves. I ain’t selling drugs, I’m selling membership.”

The trailer touches on the relationship between Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey’s characters, with former homophobe Ron Woodroof assaulting a man in a grocery store after he insults Rayon.

However, things predictably don’t all go smoothly in Ron Woodroof’s new venture.

With an increased number of HIV and AIDS patients seeking his help, he comes to the attention of the FDA who investigate.

But Ron Woodruff is clever, giving police a list of members of the club, who happen to share the monikers of the Dallas Cowboys football players.

Forced to look further afield than over the Mexican border, the movie shows Matthew McConaughey travelling all over the world in search of supplies.

“Check Amsterdam, China, Israel,” he says, while declaring: “I got one life. I want it to mean something.”

The film also follows Ron Woodroof’s personal quest to survive more than his 30 day prognosis.

In reality, he actually managed to live for a further 2191 days, passing away on September 12, 1992, six years after he was diagnosed with the HIV virus.

Meanwhile there has been growing Oscar buzz surrounding Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto’s performances after Tuesday’s first viewing of the trailer which will première at the Toronto Film Festival.

Commentators have also cited Focus Features’s decision to move the film’s release date up to November 1, in order to fully maximize its awards season chances.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves have welcomed their third child.

The baby joins the couple’s daughter Vida, 3, and their 4-year-old son Levi.

The sex of the baby has yet to be confirmed, although TMZ reported that it was a second daughter for the couple.

It is believed 30-year-old Camila Alves gave birth in Austin, Texas, where the two share a home.

The happy couple have been together since 2006 but wed in June this year at their Texas home.

Matthew McConaughey, 43, is currently filming The Dallas Buyers Club in New Orleans, but is thought to have been at Camila Alves’ side for the birth.

Matthew McConaughey told People magazine of his children’s excitement when he told them about their new sibling.

“One of them wants a brother, the other one wants a sister and then they switch the next day.”

Ron Woodroof’s family helped Matthew McConaughey to reveal the true story of courage that inspired actor’s breathtaking transformation in new movie The Dallas Buyers Club.

Sharon Woodroof Braden, 70, and Yvette Carroll, 42, have had years to try to come to terms with the agony of losing Ron Woodroof – Sharon’s brother and Yvette’s father to AIDS.

But Matthew McConaughey’s astonishing physical transformation to tell Ron Woodroof’s courageous story in The Dallas Buyers Club means they will soon see his brave battle relived on the big screen.

These exclusive photos of Ron Woodroof, who is described as a heterosexual, homophobic electrician, as he fought the disease show just what a remarkable resemblance Matthew McConaughey has achieved for his portrayal.

Speaking from her home in Como, Texas, Sharon Woodroof Braden said: “It’s very hard to see. I don’t go on the internet.

“It’s hard to look back whenever you’ve lived through it; it’s really hard to look back at something like that. So I don’t look at the pictures that much.

“The pictures of Matthew are breathtaking though. They look so like what Ronnie looked like when he was sick and how the disease progressed.

“Matthew is definitely looking like he’s gone down that path. His eyes, that is the main thing, the way he is doing his eyes.

“I’m not looking at his body as much as his face and his face certainly taken on the look of someone with AIDS. Matthew is so in character it is unreal.”

Ron Woodroof – who Sharon and Yvette affectionately call Ronnie – was an extraordinary character who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 and given just six months to live.

Instead of accepting the death sentence, Ron Woodroof studied the disease
and its effects on the body, and created a business sourcing and smuggling non-FDA approved medication, experimental and alternative drugs for AIDS patients.

His determination and tenacity enabled him to live for six more years – during which time he pushed legislation through the courts, promoted awareness of the disease and helped countless other AIDS patients in the process.

“I remember he was the best-looking man I’d ever seen, even when I was little,” his daughter Yvette Carroll has said.

But that appeal all changed when he got sick, as Yvette Carroll said: “It was awful to see him like that. I couldn’t handle it, even at 21 years old.”

Over the years, several A-List stars have had their names attached to play the role of Ron Woodroof in the film – including Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling.

Sharon Woodroof Braden said: “They wanted Brad Pitt to play him and I thought <<No, that isn’t going to work because I didn’t think Brad Pitt had the personality>>.

“They talked about Ryan Gosling and I thought the same thing.

“I like Ryan Gosling but I didn’t think his personality was the right personality.

“Then a year ago they mentioned Matthew McConaughey and I thought, <<Ok … yes!>>

“He’s got that same swagger that Ron had. I’m excited because Matthew is from Texas. I really think he has that personality where he can do what needs to be done.”

Sharon Woodroof Braden says the way Matthew McConaughey has gone about losing weight to transform into Ron is another characteristic they shared – determination.

The actor has dropped more than 40 pounds for the role leading to criticism that he was risking his health by extreme dieting, though he insisted he was going it the safe and healthy way.

“I feel fine. I really do. I got the means to lose the weight in a really healthy way. I’m eating fresh fish. I’m just eating small amounts. I’m not being starved… I’m taking care of myself,” he told The Daily Beast.

Of his shocking weight loss Sharon Woodroof Braden said: “I hate that he’s having to do this, I really do. I wish there was another way for him to do it, but that is just another trait – determination – Matthew does to portray someone dying of AIDS.

“It isn’t pretty in real life and it won’t be pretty on the big screen. I think he will get an Oscar for this role.”

Sharon Woodroof Braden says that things weren’t always easy between her and Ron when he was alive. He was a drug user and had many girlfriends – leaving his family unclear exactly how he contracted HIV.

“I will say this, I love Ronnie and always have – and I miss him with all my heart – but I know where he is and I know where my cars are now!

“But he was one wonderful and unique individual; I didn’t realize how unique he was until he got sick. But he was my brother and down underneath we both loved each other a lot.”

Jared Leto has revealed his shockingly skinny frame after starving himself for a month to play the role of a HIV-positive transsexual woman in the Dallas Buyers Club.

Jared Leto has shed a drastic amount of weight for the role – much like his co-star Matthew McConaughey.

However, while Matthew McConaughey has been on a slim-down mission for six months, Jaredo Leto has transformed his physique in little over a month after only recently getting involved in the project.

Jared Leto, 40, who has waxed his body hair and eyebrows for the movie.

This week, Jared Leto told Vulture about how he has been suffering for his art, revealing he has essentially starved himself for the past month.

He said of the weight loss: “Your body goes through weird stages.

“Sometimes it’s hard to hold on to water. But for me, it’s not about the most weight I can lose, it’s more to represent the character.”

He went on: “Historically, people have done it for pursuit of self, to achieve a meditative state, so I’m hoping for that. It’s not necessarily a bad thing.”

Explaining his involvement in the Jean-Marc Vallée-directed movie – which marks his return to the big screen after 2009’s Mr. Nobody – Jared Leto said: “I’m playing a transsexual woman. I didn’t get involved in the project until a few weeks ago, three and a half weeks ago.”

Jared Leto has gained and lost weight before for film roles, notably piling on the pounds for Chapter 27 back in 2006.

The actor did not give details of how much he has lost for the Dallas Buyers Club, but his co-star Matthew McConaughey recently told how he has dropped almost 40lbs to play Ron Woodroof, a real-life electrician who smuggled illegal medication after contracting the disease.

Matthew McConaughey has revealed he is now down to his goal weight to play the real-life AIDS-afflicted character of Ron Woodroof in The Dallas Buyers Club – and doesn’t plan on losing any more.

In a new interview the 6 ft-tall actor reveals he now weighs in at 143lbs – having lost 38 lbs over the past few months (more than the 30 lbs previously reported).

With a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 19.4, Matthew McConaughey is still in the “normal weight” range – but skirting very close to and just seven pounds away from the underweight range (below 18.5).

Matthew McConaughey, 43, opened up to HitFix.com about the struggle he endured to shrink his frame – admitting it has been “90 per cent diet”, and exercise less so, which has seen him transform into the gaunt figure he is today.

He also admitted to looking forward to being able to eat a cheeseburger – but before then he has to maintain his weight for the next five weeks while filming after arriving on location in New Orleans over the weekend.

“I feel good, now,” Matthew McConaughey told HitFix‘s Gregory Ellwood. “Overall, probably got 35 percent less energy. The tough part, there have been plateaus.”

He explained: “Getting past 170 [lbs] was really hard, but then once you get into the 167, the next 7 come off easy. Getting past 160, really hard. But then you fly down to 150.

“Getting past 150 was really hard. And then, bam, got down to 143 and that’s where I want to be. Once you get past the plateau, the body seems to understand, <<OK this is where we’re living now, this is where we are>>, so the energy rises.”

Matthew McConaughey also talked about how he realized it was his diet he needed to regulate most – rather than his exercise.

The star is sticking to a drastic regime of cardio, five ounces of protein a day and low carbohydrates to maintain his emaciated form.

He said: “I’m doing cardio but I’ll tell you what, the more I’ve learned is – and I think it comes with age too – is it’s 90 percent diet.

“It’s 90 percent amount and then what you’re eating because right now I’m not losing any more weight if I burn 1,500 calories, two hours of cardio in an afternoon, or if I don’t. It doesn’t matter. It’s a matter of how much I eat or how little I eat.”

Matthew McConaughey says he has had to be strict on himself and stay away from temptation – but concedes that while he is looking forward to eating normally again, his body will probably be in for a shock.

“The organs shrink, so my stomach has shrunk as well. So as much as I can’t wait to have that cheeseburger, on the day, it’ll be damn hard to eat the whole thing.”

But for now: “I choose to pick my places where there’s less good smells and temptations. I don’t want to be doing this interview at a Pizza Hut buffet,” he added with a laugh.

The gritty film role, which initially attracted Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling, revolves around Ron Woodroof, the heterosexual, homophobic electrician who died of the disease in 1992 after illegally smuggling HIV drugs not approved in the States.

This is perhaps Matthew McConaughey’s most dramatic turn, having last appeared as a sexy stripper in Magic Mike.

Jennifer Garner has joined the film as Dr. Eve Saks and Jared Leto has also come on board to portray Ron Woodroof’s friend Rayon, a flamboyant HIV-positive cross-dressing hospital patient.

A shrinking Matthew McConaughey reported for his first day on the New Orleans set of The Dallas Buyers Club Sunday.

The normally buff 42-year-old was spotted walking by his trailer in 1986 period garb – grey T-shirt, which hung loose, blue jeans, and glasses.

Sporting a Burt Reynolds moustache, Matthew McConaughey also had a visibly large lesion on his forehead, an ominous sign of the AIDS affliction which took the life of his real-life character Ron Woodroof.

Matthew McConaughey, who dropped 30 pounds, shocked onlookers Friday as he shuffled through the security line at LAX.

He certainly looked almost unrecognizable from the snake-hipped muscleman who lit up screens this year in stripper movie Magic Mike.

Both Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling originally wanted to play Ron Woodruff, the heterosexual, homophobic electrician who perished in 1992 after illegally smuggling HIV drugs not approved in the States.

The Dallas Buyers Club, due out next April, reportedly focuses on the six months following his diagnosis.

Jennifer Garner, who starred with Matthew McConaughey in Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past, recently replaced two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank as Dr. Eve Saks in the drama.

And Jared Leto just joined the cast as Ron Woodroof’s friend Rayon, a flamboyant HIV-positive cross-dressing hospital patient.

The fact that Matthew McConaughey is so committed to altering his appearance for the role, might have something to do with the fact that the charismatic leading man has yet to secure an Oscar, Golden Globe, or Emmy nomination.

“I’m playing a guy who was sick and would have loved to have been healthier but wasn’t,” Matthew McConaughey told Us Weekly.

“For me, it’s more of a mental thing than a physical thing. I’ll get down to the weight I need to get to. I’m on my way, and it’s what I need to do for the job.”

Matthew McConaughey is currently doing cardio, drinking a lot of tea, and eating five ounces of high-protein, low-carbohydrate foods a day.

However, the triathelete has already planned out his post-Buyer’s Club celebratory meal – “cheeseburger”.

The most famous thespian to have vigorously exercised the pounds off for a juicy role was Christian Bale, who lost 63 pounds for The Machinist thanks to a diet of coffee, water, a can of tuna, and an apple a day.

Rapper 50 Cent did a two-month liquid diet to lose 50 pounds for Things Fall Apart, while Matt Damon suffered adrenal gland damage from losing 50 pounds for his heroin addict character in Courage Under Fire.

Fears are growing Matthew McConaughey is taking it too far as he continues to shed weight for a role as an AIDS victim in a forthcoming film, The Dallas Buyer’s Club.

Matthew McConaughey, 42, looked gaunt and unwell as he made his way through a Los Angeles airport as he jetted out to New Orleans on Friday.

The actor was aiming to lose 30 pounds from his already lean but muscular frame to play Ron Woodroof in The Dallas Buyer’s Club.

However, it looks like Matthew McConaughey may have lost even more than that as he shuffled through security at LAX.

He certainly looked almost unrecognizable from the snake-hipped muscleman who lit up screens this year in stripper movie Magic Mike.

The Dallas Buyer’s Club starts filming next week and follows what happened when Ron Woodroof was given six months to live after contracting the disease in 1986.He ended up spending the next six years smuggling medicine into the U.S. to help himself and fellow sufferers.

The heterosexual, homophobic electrician died in 1992 after illegally smuggling HIV drugs not approved in the States.

Jared Leto has just been cast in the film, which will also star Jennifer Garner.

He is to play Rayon, a cross-dressing fellow AIDS patient who meets Ron Woodroof in the hospital.

Matthew McConaughey revealed he was going to lose a staggering 30 lbs to play real-life AIDS victim Ron Woodruff in upcoming movie The Dallas Buyer’s Club.

But it seems that it might be time for Matthew McConaughey to stop his weight loss quest.

Matthew McConaughey, 42, was seen on a family day out in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, and appeared to be severely emaciated.

The actor failed to conceal his frail frame beneath a baggy navy knitted cardigan and loose-fitting jeans, wearing a red scarf around his neck and topping off his outfit with a flat cap.

He even appeared to be struggling to walk along, putting his arm around his mother Mary for support as the group left church after the morning service.

However, while Matthew McConaughey looked terrifyingly gaunt, his wife Camila looked healthier than ever.

The Brazilian model is currently expecting her third child with Matthew McConaughey, and highlighted her blooming figure in a patterned maxi dress, which she finished off with a pair of brown cowboy boots.

Camila and Matthew McConaughey were joined by their two children Levi and Vida for the service, with Vida looking cute in a dress and orange scarf, while Levi opted for a dapper outfit in jeans and a mini pea coat.

It was revealed last year that Magic Mike star Matthew McConaughey would be playing Ron Woodroof in the upcoming movie, after beating strong competition from stars including Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling for the role.

Matthew McConaughey was spotted a couple of days ago looking unrecognizable and showing off a gaunt frame on the set of his new movie.

Matthew McConaughey, 42, appeared thinner than ever as he returned to his Manhattan hotel on Thursday.

A white v-neck T-shirt, which would normally be fitted across his usual muscular torso, literally hung off the Hollywood hunk, while his blue jeans were even more baggier around his legs.

His extreme weight loss – for a new role playing a HIV victim – has also caused him to look pale and gaunt, and much older than his 42 years.

The actor is on a quest to lose a whopping 30 lbs for the new movie role and by the looks of it he is already there.

Matthew McConaughey is currently in New York filming The Wolf of Wall Street, based on a memoir by Jordan Belfort who spent 22 months in jail for offenses related to stock market manipulation and running a boiler room.

Work on the movie began in Manhattan earlier this month.

The film, directed by Martin Scorsese, also features Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, and French Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin and is set to open in theaters in 2013.

But his weight loss is actually for his next role in The Dallas Buyer’s Club.

Matthew McConaughey told Larry King in a recent interview: “I’m playing a guy who was sick and would have loved to have been healthier but wasn’t.

“For me, it’s more of a mental thing than a physical thing. I’ll get down to the weight I need to get to. I’m on my way, and it’s what I need to do for the job.”

The father-of-two, whose wife Camilla Alves is expecting their third child this fall, has been taking a philosophical approach to his punishing diet.

“It’s a bit of a spiritual cleanse, mental cleanse,” he said.

“[I’m] drinking a lot of tea.”

“It takes a while for your body to understand that it has to feed off of itself and that you’re not going to give it something else from the outside,” he adds.

The gritty role is based on the real life story of a Dallas man named Ron Woodruff, who contracted HIV through drug use in the ‘80s.

Matthew and Camila McConaughey are said to have shared whispered vows, uttering them into each other’s ears, according to Us Weekly.

A source told the publication: “No one knew what they said. Whatever they said was very emotional. [Camila] was tearing up.”

The couple – who had been together six years before getting engaged last Christmas – decided against a traditional first dance and a cake – instead of opting for a selection of desserts.

They shared a long passionate kiss, before dancing the night away into the early hours, the report continues.

Camila has taken Matthew’s surname and has officially become Camila McConaughey, the actor’s representation told People.com.

People magazine also reports that the couple kept the nuptials a secret from some guests up until the very last minute.

A sea of tents set out in the grounds of the property provided accommodation for their guests.

The luxury temporary abodes, numbered 1-47, were in four rows in the garden and were said to be kitted out with beds, cosy white fur rugs on the floor, and outdoor seating with doormats at the front.

Shortly after the wedding, Matthew McConaughey was spotted leaving a gym in Austin – distracting from his sweat-soaked workout gear with his new gold wedding band.

They have also been equipped with what appears to be high-tech air-conditioning units.

Yesterday Matthew McConaughey, 42, appeared to be relaxing in a hammock as preparations went on around him, with a giant white marquis erected – no doubt where the happy couple walked down the aisle this evening.

Also visible from the bird’s eye view were seven long, wooden dinner tables, that seat 18 people each.

There were boxes of candles that also looked set to provide extra romance for this evening spectacular event.

Security was on hand at the three-story, seven-bedroom mansion, called Old Oak Estate.

Just two dozen close friends and relatives are thought to have been invited to the “cosy” celebration, with those working at the event signing a nondisclosure contract, according to E! News.

Camila Alves, 29, was due to be honored at the Step Up Women’s Network event in Beverly Hills yesterday but instead sent a video message so she could remain close to the wedding plans.

The Brazilian model recently said she didn’t expect marriage to alter their relationship.

“We’ve been living a married life for over six years now,” she says.

“We have homes together, we have family together, we have kids, we’ve built a life together. So, we’ve been living a married life this whole time.”

Matthew McConaughey recently moved his family back to Austin, Texas because he loves the laid-back vibe of the city and enjoys a level of anonymity he cannot achieve elsewhere.

The actor said: “No one recognizes you and no one asks you, <<Hey, what do you do?>>, because I don’t think anyone cares.

“Fridays show up sooner here. You want to get along in Austin, you want to get along in Texas, all you have to do is be yourself.”

Matthew McConaughey previously dated Penélope Cruz and Ashley Judd.
