David Bowie has won Best British Male trophy at this year’s BRIT Awards in London, although he was not there in person to collect his award.
Arctic Monkeys won both Best Group and Best Album for the third time.
Ellie Goulding won Best British Female, while pop act One Direction were honored for their global success for the second year running.
Kate Moss collected David Bowie’s prize and read a speech on his behalf urging Scottish voters to reject independence.
“I’m completely delighted to have a BRIT for being the best male – but I am, aren’t I Kate? Yes. I think it’s a great way to end the day. Thank you very, very much and Scotland stay with us,” were David Bowie’s words – as delivered by Kate Moss.
One Direction also won Best British Video, in a public vote.
Their win, for the track Best Song Ever, was helped by their 17.8 million-strong Twitter followers.
The ceremony at the O2 Arena also featured a host of performances, including from Beyonce and Katy Perry, who put on a colorful, Egyptian-themed show.
However, Katy Perry lost out to New Zealander Lorde in the race for Best International Female.

Bruno Mars also gave a live performance, just shortly after picking up the prize for Best International Male.
David Bowie’s prize came at the expense of four much younger hopefuls – Jake Bugg, Tom Odell, John Newman and Mercury Prize winner James Blake.
At 67, David Bowie is the oldest recipient of a BRIT Award in the ceremony’s history and the award comes 18 years since his last BRITs success.
David Bowie, who released his The Next Day album after a 10-year hiatus, previously won Best British Male in 1984.
However, David Bowie, who spends much of his time in New York, did not attend the gala.
Noel Gallagher, announcing the award, remarked: “You maniacs didn’t think he’d actually be here? David Bowie’s too cool for that.”
The ceremony was wound up with a medley by Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers.
Ellie Goulding lifted the first prize of the night and said she was “genuinely in shock” and “shaking”.
Her award, presented by singer Prince, comes four years after she was named the Critics’ Choice, a prize won this year by Sam Smith.
Arctic Monkeys repeated their Best Group triumph of 2007 and 2008, and frontman Alex Turner joked that they had put money on rivals One Direction to win.
While One Direction scooped two prizes, they were denied a third by dance group Rudimental, who won Best British Single for the number one hit Waiting All Night.
From a clutch of three nominations, Bastille were named Best British Breakthrough Act, while French dance act Daft Punk took Best International Group.
Kate Moss channels a Playboy bunny on the magazine’s much-anticipated January cover in honor of her 40th birthday year.
Inside the magazine, Kate Moss opens up about why she cherishes her privacy, explaining: “I don’t want to hang my dirty laundry out for Hello! and for people to know all the ins and outs of my life … I don’t get why it would be interesting. I’m not that different.”

Kate Moss, who turns 40 on January 16, also divulges that she never even considered pursuing a different path.
“I was, like, a child when I started. I was 14,” the supermodel says.
“If it hadn’t happened, I don’t know what would have happened to me. I would be in Croyden [the neighborhood south of London where she grew up], working in a bar, probably. I wanted to be at the center of things. I love working with creative people, and there was none of that where I came from. As soon as I was given a chance I took it,” Kate Moss added.
Prince Harry attended Glastonbury Festival with his girlfriend Cressida Bonas, somehow managing to go unnoticed.
Now it seems the secret to Prince Harry’s ability to mingle with the crowd at Glastonbury was in his outfit.
In the first image that has emerged of Prince Harry, 28, he is seen wearing the oldest and best form of disguise – a hat and sunglasses – as he explores the site with a large group of friends.
Prince Harry, who is known for his love of a good party, was photographed from behind while chatting to a friend.
His side profile is instantly recognizable, as is the dash of red hair which can be seen poking out the front of his hat.
It seems Prince Harry’s pals may have been in on his little disguise as a number of them are also wearing trilby hats in the picture.
He wore a grey one, pulled over his head while shades were firmly on his face. He is also seen wearing jeans and a pair of trainers.

Prince Harry’s girlfriend, Cressida Bonas, can be seen strolling just behind him wearing a pair of dungarees with a bright blue hat and her arm draped around another pal.
The Prince’s ability to go unnoticed ensured he had what sound like an epic weekend at the festival.
As well as being seen hanging out with Kate Moss’s posse, Prince Harry was seen with girlfriend Cressida Bonas on the dancefloor at wild hardcore dance club The Rabbit Hole.
The club which was in The Park area of the festival was the main hangout for hard-partying stars like Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne, and Sam Branson – who were able to remain anonymous among the crowd.
They had their own VIP area which overlooked the VIP teepee accommodation provided to celebrities such as Cara Delevingne, Florence Welch and Kate Moss.
Prince Harry joined the model after watching The Rolling Stones headline set, and following a recommendation from festival organizer Michael Eavis to stay and sample the event’s varied and wild nightlife.
A source told The Sun: “Harry was well up for it. He was dancing in a grey trilby and a white T-shirt, with two security guards close by. They just let him get on with it.”
Michael Eavis, 77, said: “Prince Harry was great actually. I recommended that he should go on into the night, because the nightlife is what Glastonbury is all about.
“At three o’clock in the afternoon, you don’t get it.”
Michael Eavis said he did not join Prince Harry for a pint of cider as he abstains from drinking from two months before the festival until after everyone has left the site.
Johnny Depp opened up about his split from Vanessa Paradis, his former partner of 14 years with whom he has two children, admitting the break-up last June “wasn’t easy” on anyone.
Johnny Depp, 50, told Rolling Stonemagazine: “The last couple years have been a bit bumpy. At times, certainly unpleasant, but that’s the nature of breakups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved.
“Relationships are very difficult. Especially in the racket that I’m in because you’re constantly away or they’re away and so it’s hard. It wasn’t easy on her. It wasn’t easy on me. It wasn’t easy on the kids. So, yeah. The trajectory of that relationship – you play it out until it goes, one thing leads to another.
“So for whatever reason that ceases, it doesn’t stop the fact that you care for that person, and they’re the mother of your kids, and you’ll always know each other, and you’re always gonna be in each other’s lives because of those kids. You might as well make the best of it.”
Johnny Depp admits Vanessa Paradis break-up last June “wasn’t easy” on anyone
Johnny Depp, who was famed for his tumultuous making and breaking up with British model Kate Moss, says he handled his relationship meltdown with more maturity this time round.
He said: “In terms of the breakup, I definitely wasn’t going to rely on the drink to ease things or cushion the blow or cushion the situation.
“Cause that could have been fatal. I felt it was my duty to be real clear throughout that. I had something pretty serious to focus on, really, which was making sure that my kids were gonna be cool.”
And he added that his children are doing well.
“They’ve been incredibly understanding, incredibly strong throughout the whole ordeal. And it’s hard on every side. You know, Vanessa’s side, certainly not easy. My side, not easy. The kids are the most complicated,” Johnny Depp explained.
“The thing is, kiddies come first. You can’t shield them, because then you’d be lying. So you can at least be honest with your kids, and you say the absolute truth to your child – that was very important to not pussyfoot around.”
Johnny Depp, who celebrates his 50th birthday today, was hailed as the world’s sexiest man, but he still has not achieved the stable home life he longed for.
Sources told The Sunday People part of it is that Johnny Depp always acts like a teenager with women, rather than a middle-aged dad of two.
And his psyche must owe a lot to a childhood in which his volatile parents uprooted him 30 times in 15 years.
Johnny Depp has loved and lost some of the world’s most beautiful women, including British supermodel Kate Moss.
He was shattered when his 14-year relationship with French singer Vanessa Paradis, 40, ended last year.
Yet Johnny Depp soon fell into the arms of bombshell actress Amber Heard, 27. He is already calling the beauty his soulmate and talking of marriage.
But friends are saying it is a relationship that won’t last. Old schoolmate Yves Bouhadana said: “Johnny falls in love at first sight. When he falls for a girl he really falls for her.”
Yves Bouhadana, who was in a teenage band with Johnny Depp and is still friends with him, added: “He wears his heart on his sleeve. He’s is a genuinely nice guy.
“He doesn’t act around his friends. What you see is what you get.”
Johnny Depp is worth more than $350 million and his agents can command $20 million for a film role.
But his childhood was far from idyllic. He was the youngest of four and witnessed constant rows between his dad John, an engineer, and waitress mum Betty Sue. When the family moved from Kentucky to Florida all of them lived at first in a single motel room.
They moved on average every six months and young Johnny constantly changed schools. The marriage unraveled slowly and painfully and by the time Johnny Depp was 13 he was smoking d**e, drinking heavily and deliberately cutting his arms to hurt himself.
Talking later about his marks, Johnny Depp said: “My body is a journal, in a way. Every important event is marked there.”
His parents’ marriage ended when he was 15.
Johnny Depp’s first and most lasting love was music. His mother bought him a guitar for his 13th birthday and he spent hours learning to play.
He made friends with a group of like-minded boys, including Yves Bouhadana, and they formed heavy metal bands.
They discovered groupies and Johnny Depp lost his virginity in the back of a van after a concert at a school.
He described it as “forgettable” and it even put him off casual s**.
While band mates picked up all the girls, Johnny Depp concentrated on his music. Then he fell head over heels in love with make-up artist Lori Anne Allison after a 1980 gig in Florida. He was 17 and she was 22. He proposed marriage almost immediately but they did not tie the knot until Christmas Eve 1983, in Miami. Johnny Depp was 20.
Johnny Depp, who celebrates his 50th birthday today, was hailed as the world’s sexiest man, but he still has not achieved the stable home life he longed for
Yves Bouhadana, now a 49-year-old sales executive living in Ohio, recalled: “She was absolutely beautiful. Still is.”
“Lori was his first serious relationship and he couldn’t wait to marry her. She is a very private person and doesn’t like to talk about the marriage. They are still friends.
“That’s the great thing with Johnny. He hasn’t changed since we were at school. We all still get together.”
Johnny Depp wanted to make it as a rock guitarist and Lori Anne Allison supported him as a make-up artist when they moved to Hollywood with his band The Kids.
But musical success and happiness eluded him. The Kids opened for the Ramones, Iggy Pop, The Pretenders and Talking Heads but the band failed to get a record deal and his marriage fell apart within two years. Biographer Cristopher Heard said: “It ended just simply because of the stress of failure.”
Johnny Depp and Lori Anne Allison were evicted from several apartments and were divorced in 1985. But Lori Anne Allison had introduced him to actor Nicolas Cage and the two became mates. Nicolas Cage persuaded him to get an agent.
Success came quickly with a memorable role in 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, which became an unexpected hit.
Soon Johnny Depp was engaged to Twin Peaks beauty Sherilyn Fenn but they split after two years, blaming work commitments.
Never on his own for long, Johnny Depp dated Dirty Dancing’s Jennifer Grey and – following a familiar pattern – proposed.
But that relationship also lasted only two years and Johnny Depp quickly hooked up with fiancée No4 Winona Ryder, his co-star in 1990’s Edward Scissorhands.
Work got in the way again and after splitting from Winona Ryder he moved on to Kate Moss.
Kate Moss was 23, a supermodel, and he was a 33-year-old film star. The relationship was volatile. Johnny Depp once caused $10,000 damage to his New York hotel room after a row with Kate Moss.
And he was devastated when they broke up in 1998 after four years together.
Johnny Depp said: “I cried for a week after we split. I didn’t give her the attention I should have done. I was a horrific pain in the butt to live with. I’m a total moron at times. I let my work get in the way.
“I will never let it happen again. I think you could say I have truly discovered the meaning of loneliness.”
But within weeks Johnny Depp was spotted out with Vanessa Paradis. And three months later she was pregnant. Their daughter Lily-Rose Melody Depp was born in 1999 and the couple’s son John Christopher “Jack” Depp III came along in 2002.
With homes in France and the Bahamas, they looked settled. But in the later years Johnny Depp started to spend more time working in Hollywood and the split from Vanessa Paradis was announced in June 2012.
True to form he quickly sought solace with Amber Heard. His frends said Johnny Depp was once again acting like a teenager in love. The pair had two bust-ups in the early stages but have since calmed down.
One friend said: “Johnny always goes overboard with women. He has whisked Amber off to his island in the Bahamas and has already introduced her to his children. When they’re apart he sends her poetry. It is very sweet but everyone worries about him getting hurt again.”
This weekend there are several 50th birthday celebrations for Johnny Depp.
Rolling Stone Keith Richards insisted on being there with Johnny Depp and Amber Heard to toast his pal’s landmark.
The friendship began after Johnny Depp revealed he modeled his Pirates of the Caribbean character Jack Sparrow on Keith Richards, 69.
Kate Moss has revealed her supermodel body is quite literally a work of art – as she has a tattoo inked by Lucian Freud just above her bottom.
Kate Moss, 38, befriended Lucian Freud – widely considered one of the greatest artists of the 20th Century – when he painted her in the nude in 2002 while she was pregnant with her daughter Lila Grace.
In an interview in America, Kate Moss told how Lucian Freud – who learned how to give homemade tattoos using permanent ink and a scalpel during a brief stint in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War – offered to draw two tiny swallows at the base of her spine.
“He told me about when he was in the navy, when he was 19 or something, and he used to do all of the tattoos for the sailors,” she said.
“And I said, <<Oh my God, that’s amazing>>. And he went, <<I can do you one. What would you like? Would you like creatures of the animal kingdom?>>
“I said I liked birds and he replied, <<I’ve done birds. I’ve got it in my book.>> And he pointed down at a painting of a chicken upside down in a bucket. And I said, <<No, I’m not having that.>>
“And then he said, <<Maybe I should just do you>>. And I thought, I’m not going to have a girl on my a***. So we decided to do a flock of birds.
“I mean, it’s an original Freud. I wonder how much a collector would pay for that? A few million?
“If it all goes horribly wrong I could get a skin graft and sell it! It’s probably the only one on skin that’s still around, because when he was in the navy he was about 19. Can you imagine?”
Kate Moss has revealed her supermodel body is quite literally a work of art as she has a tattoo inked by Lucian Freud just above her bottom
Kate Moss, who this week launched her new book, Kate, has often shown off the tattoo but the provenance of it has never been revealed until now.
She has several other tattoos including a heart on her left wrist, a small anchor on her right wrist and a small star on her ankle.
During the interview Kate Moss spoke movingly about being introduced to Lucian Freud – who died in July 2011 at the age of 88 – after naming him in an interview as the person she would most like to meet. Two days later, Lucian Freud’s fashion designer daughter Bella called and said the artist would like to meet her.
Kate Moss revealed: “I was, <<Oh my God!>> Bella said, <<He just wants to go for dinner with you. Don’t be late>>. So I went to the house and he started [the nude painting] that night. Couldn’t say no to Lucian. Very persuasive. I phoned Bella the next day and said, <<How long is it going to take?>>
“She said, <<How big is the canvas?>> I said, <<It’s quite big>>. She said, <<Oh dear, could take six months to a year>>.”
The painting took nine months to complete, with the model sitting seven nights a week from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. It was sold to an anonymous bidder at auction in 2005 for £3.9 million ($6 million). Kate Moss said of that time: “I could not be one minute late. He was really powerful. You wanted to please him. But I wish I hadn’t posed like that.
“It’s just the first thing I did – I just fell on the side of the sofa and he said, <<That’s fine>>, and started painting. It’s not like modelling where you can change it. I had a dead arm.”
The supermodel also told Vanity Fair magazine of the famous photograph of the pair cuddling in bed in 2010 when Lucian Freud was recovering from an accident. She said: “I took all these flowers, those little ones he loved . . . and he was in bed.
“He pulled back the covers and went, <<I’ve been keeping it warm for you>>.
“I love the picture. Ijust got under his arm. Lucian was always really kind. I adored him.”
