Tennis player Petra Kvitova said she is “fortunate to be alive” after being injured in a knife attack at her home on December 20.
The 26-year-old Wimbledon champion has been treated for a left-hand injury – her playing hand – following the incident in the eastern Czech town of Prostejov.
Petra Kvitova said: “The injury is severe and I will need to see specialists.”
Her representative, Karel Tejkal, described the incident as a burglary.

“It was a random crime, nobody was going to attack or rob her as Petra Kvitova,” he said.
Petra Kvitova, who is ranked 11 in the world and has won a career total of 19 titles, including Grand Slam victories at Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014, said: “Thank you for all your heartwarming messages.
“As you may have already heard, today I was attacked in my apartment by an individual with a knife. In my attempt to defend myself, I was badly injured on my left hand.
“I am shaken, but fortunate to be alive. The injury is severe and I will need to see specialists, but if you know anything about me I am strong and I will fight this. Thank you all again for your love and support and now I would appreciate some privacy while I focus on my recovery.”
Petra Kvitova had announced earlier in the day that a foot injury forced her to withdraw from January’s Hopman Cup in Perth, Australia.
White rapper Vanilla Ice has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft in Florida, police say.
Police say the singer, also known as Robert Van Winkle, is suspected of stealing property near a house he was working on in the town of Lantana.
Some of the stolen items, including furniture and bicycles, were found at his home.
Vanilla Ice, now 47, sold 15 million copies of the single Ice Ice Baby in 1990.
He was one of the leading white rappers at the time, but in recent years his singing career has faded.
In 2008 Vanilla Ice was arrested for allegedly pushing his wife and in 2001 he spent a night in jail after being arrested following a domestic dispute.
He now stars in a renovation show named the Vanilla Ice Project on DIY Network.

Renee Alway has remained in custody at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in nearby Banning with bail set at $150,000.
She was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday for a drug court evaluation.
Renee Alway also was arrested on June 2 and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, petty theft and fraud.
She pleaded not guilty and was released on bail, which prompted the charge of committing a felony while on bail following her latest arrest.
Renee Alway has been arrested three times this year, Sgt. Kyle Stjerne told KTLA News in Los Angeles.
He did not give any specifics on her other alleged crimes.
Renee Alway competed on Cycle 8 of the modelling competition show created by and starring Tyra Banks and finished third.
Cycle 20 of America’s Next Top Model will premiere on August 2.
