Rapper Mac Miller has been found dead at his California home after an apparent overdose, a Los Angeles coroner has confirmed.
The 26-year-old was open about his substance abuse.
“The music artist known as Mac Miller died today in his Studio City home,” the LA County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner said in a statement.
“In the late morning of September 7, Malcolm McCormick was found unresponsive…. authorities were called and Miller was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:51.
“At this time, an autopsy is pending and a cause of death has not been determined.”
Mac Miller, whose real name was Malcolm James McCormick, rose to fame after topping US charts with his debut album in 2011.
The rapper released his latest record, Swimming, earlier this year and was due to go on tour.
He went through a well-publicized break-up with singer and girlfriend Ariana Grande earlier this year.
Ariana Grande and Mac Miller, who met in 2012, collaborated on a number of songs and performed together at the One Love Manchester concert in 2017.
Charges were filed against the rapper last month after he was arrested in May for DUI and hit and run.

In a statement confirming his death, Mac Miller’s family said that he was “a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans”.

Speaking ahead of the show James Currell, chief operating officer for Viacom International Media, who produce the show, said he hoped this year’s awards could reach even more viewers than in the previous year.

He said: “Tonight millions of viewers from across the world will see us from Glasgow on our 60 MTV channels and our 200 MTV digital properties.

Organizers revealed that 6,213 miles of cable had been installed to power the event, and a wiggery has been installed backstage to accommodate 500 wigs and 300 hairpieces.
Twenty two hairdressers and 40 make-up artists will assist the acts while 80 costumes have also been prepared.
The dressing rooms contain a number of treats, including a limited edition 10-year-old Highland single malt whisky from Glengoyne.
Meanwhile, each presenter and performer will be given presents including diamond and crystal jewellery, and SpongeBob SquarePants socks.

Cheryl Cole won the wildcard vote to be in the running for Best UK & Ireland Act, the winner of which will enter the Best Worldwide category.
Voting has begun now on the official MTV EMA site, and will remain open until November 8.
