Lucille Ball fans want horrific statue of actress to be removed

Lucille Ball fans are not happy with a public statue erected in her hometown Celoron, New York.

They complained the statue is “frightening” and looks nothing like I Love Lucy star, and are now looking into fundraising options to fix it.

Celoron residents have been clamoring to refurbish the statue on a Facebook group called We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue.

The 400-pound life-size bronze statue made by artist Dave Poulin was erected in 2009 after being privately commissioned.

Replacing the statue is not easy.

“It would be a lot of money,” Celoron mayor Scott Schrecengost told the local Post-Journal.

“Over the past couple of years, I’ve reached out to Dave Poulin, and have had at least four conversations with him about redoing the statue. He finally came back and said he wanted $8,000 to $10,000 to do it. I’ve also reached out to several other sculptors in the region, and some said they would do it, but we’re still looking at about $5,000. We’d like to work with the original sculptor, and wish he would stand behind his work enough to step up and fix it for free.”

The mayor also assured locals that he has no intention of using taxpayer money to fund the statue renovation, nor is the statue taking precedence over his more pressing duties.

Meanwhile, according to the Facebook group: “Dave Poulin, is going to give a phone interview with Good Morning America tomorrow morning. Saturday Morning. I hope you will all turn in to see what he says. Let’s be open minded, But… he must be forewarned that 63 thousand people have read this page and there are over 4 thousand people that have “Liked” this page. We are watching. Let’s hope he announces it is being melted down and the metal sold to help charity. As I have stated before I am 100 percent against another penny being spent to “fix” this statue.”
