Alex Rawlings speaks 11 languages fluently

has won a national competition to find the UK’s most multi-lingual student.

The 22-year-old undergraduate can currently speak 11 languages:

  1. English
  2. Greek
  3. German
  4. Spanish
  5. Russian
  6. Dutch
  7. Afrikaans
  8. French
  9. Hebrew
  10. Catalan
  11. Italian

Alex Rawlings, a 22-year-old Oxford University undergraduate, can currently speak 11 languages

Entrants in the competition run by the publishers Collins had to be aged between 16 and 22 and conversant in multiple languages.

Alex Rawlings drew on all his skills to tell BBC News about his passion for and how he came to speak so many.
