Vitaly Grodi, a drunk taxi driver, who smashed into 12 cars in Moscow downtown, told police he decided to get into his cab naked after his girlfriend dumped him.

The Russian police were alerted to the man’s erratic driving when he took a wrong turn in central Moscow.

Police officers then watched in disbelief as the man, named on Russian TV as taxi driver Vitaly Grodi, narrowly avoided hitting a schoolbus, ramming a police van and smashing several other cars.

Eventually Vitaly Grodi was caught and officers who asked him to step out of his car were stunned after seeing the driver was naked.

Footage shown on Russian TV shows damage to Vitaly Grodi’s grey taxi, with a front wheel missing and a headlight smashed in.

Vitaly Grodi, who wasn’t even wearing shoes, screamed at police not to cover him up as he lay on the ground handcuffed.

Police officers managed to cuff the man and cover him with two coats.

On video footage the taxi driver is lying on the pavement screaming “don’t cover me!” to officers who tried to cover him with clothes.

Vitaly Grodi said he came from the ex-Soviet nation of Moldova and was in distress over an unhappy relationship.

Vitaly Grodi told the police his behavior was down to being unhappy in love.

Russian website avtostriptizer reported he told officers : “I flew on the wings of love. On the eve of our anniversary said she was not ready for a serious relationship.”
